Core Beliefs of Bishop Hendricken Football

  1. Unique Standards and Culture: We are not like any other program. Our standards and culture are not defined by what others do or what individuals perceive. We set our own high bar, focusing on excellence, integrity, and commitment. We expect every athlete to embrace these values and live them out daily, on and off the field.

  2. Mandatory Practice Attendance: Practice attendance is non-negotiable. We believe that showing up and putting in the work consistently is key to both personal and team growth. This commitment reflects the discipline and dedication we expect from every member of the team. We value effort, consistency, and a strong work ethic.

  3. Team Success Over Individualism: Decisions within our program are driven by the success of the team. We emphasize the importance of selflessness and putting the team's goals above individual ambitions. This principle stands in contrast to the individualism prevalent in today's society. We believe in doing things the right way and earning success through dedication and hard work. We Over Me is more than a motto; it's a guiding philosophy that underscores our every action.

  4. Performance-Based Playing Time: Playing time is determined by performance in practices and games. Athletes have up to 10 hours a week dedicated to individual drills, group drills, and team drills to improve. We provide the structure and support; it's up to the athletes to put in the effort. To compete in our program, athletes must be both physically and mentally resilient, embodying toughness, perseverance, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

  5. Developing Men of Character: Our goal extends beyond the football field. We aim to cultivate young men who embody the values of Bishop Hendricken—accountability, responsibility, and integrity. We expect our athletes to be accountable for their actions both on and off the field. We want our athletes to leave our program as better men, prepared to make a positive impact in the world rather than being swayed by it.

  6. Medical Decisions are Professional Decisions: Medical decisions are made by a team comprising our full-time athletic trainer, a doctor, the athlete’s parents, and the head coach. Players are not to decide unilaterally to take time off for medical reasons; all decisions are made with the athlete's best interest in mind. This ensures that health and safety are prioritized through professional guidance and support.

  7. College Recruiting Based on Substance, Not Hype: College recruiting is based on many measurable and predictable factors. It is not based on statistics, social media buzz, or how soon an athlete starts playing. We prepare our athletes for the next level by emphasizing the development of their skills, character, and overall football IQ. Success comes from hard work, consistency, and a genuine love for the game.
